    (Lower Calorie) Hippie Juice

Stop.  Stop right there.  I know what you’re thinking.  You’re thinking this looks like a dainty little pink cocktail in a pitcher, right?  Think again.

A glass pitcher filled with a pink beverage and sliced strawberries with a wooden spoon.

    Hippie Juice Recipe

I’m here to tell you this recipe for Hippie Juice is dangerous.  Did you hear me?  Because I’m gonna say it again… this stuff is dangerous.

Bottles of orange liqueur, rum, vodka and a packet of pink lemonade powdered drink mix.

Here are your ingredients:  Watermelon vodka, Malibu rum, triple sec, 1 (2 quart) packet of Crystal Light pink lemonade, and fresh strawberries (and water).

My good friend Susan that I used to work with posted a picture on my personal Facebook page of this drink.  I thought to myself, “Wow, this looks incredible!”.  But I noticed all the scoops of sugar from a lemonade mix, which I wasn’t too keen on.  Not that I don’t like lemonade mixes, but I knew there would be a LOT of calories in this drink.

A glass of hippie juice with a green straw and garnished with a strawberry.

So I used Crystal Light in place of the regular pink sugary lemonade mix.  I also doubled the recipe because the original recipe yielded half a pitcher of this Hippie Juice.  Besides, by the time you go back to make a second batch, you’re gonna be so tipsy you won’t get it right.  Might as well mix it up like a champ the first time.

So now I’m off to the store to buy my thermos since this will be my new summertime beach drink.  Cheers!

Hi Vonda, I don’t have nutritional info on this recipe. You can google “nutritional calculator” and enter the ingredients to see if it will work with your diet. Hope this helps! 🙂

It is no carb if you leave out the triple sec and strawberries!

This is exactly how I make mine except that I skip the strawberries.

The original recipe I found posted on my facebook feed used regular pink lemonade mix but gave directions to use a scoop measurement for the drink mix. It’s much easier to use Crystal Light and it lowers the amount of sugar in the recipe. You use one tube instead of trying to figure out how much is in a scoop.

The original recipe called to put the drink in a used and empty Simply Orange bottle. This makes a great pitcher/container. Personally, I like to use a used/empty Tropicana bottles myself.

I like to make this ahead of time and store it in the fridge until I’m ready to drink it. The strawberries don’t store well since they tend to turn slimy after a while.
