So sweet, savory and tart… this delicious (and easy!) Apple Crisp Recipe is the perfect fall dessert!
Whew! Now that I’ve finally gotten mostly everything cleaned up at my house from hurricane Florence… here comes Michael. He’s supposed to pay us a little visit today on the coast of NC, so I figured I’d better hurry up and make this apple crisp!
The past few weeks have been humbling and I’ve realized that out of everything, eating good food is one of our very few basic joys of life. Comfort food has been very much needed and this apple dessert was much welcomed! I’m very fortunate to say the least and am thankful. Right now my heart aches for Florida and many prayers sent up for those affected.
This apple crisp is nothing short of mouthwatering delicious. The topping is sweet, buttery and crispy. It was all I could do not to devour it while photographing. Make it even more spectacular with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. Enjoy!
Ingredients
For the apple mixture:
- 4 large granny smith apples cored, peeled and thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the topping:
- 1 1/2 cups old fashioned cooking oats
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1/2 cup butter melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9×13 baking dish with cooking spray.
Prepare the apple mixture:
- In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together white sugar, brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle mixture evenly over apples and stir to coat evenly (use your hands if necessary!).
- Spread apples evenly in baking dish.
Prepare the topping:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg until combined. Add pecans and stir to combine. Add melted butter and stir to combine until crumbly and well coated.
- Distribute topping mixture evenly over apple mixture in baking dish. Bake approximately 45 to 50 minutes, or until top is golden brown and edges are bubbling.
