    Pineapple and Molasses Dog Treats

I had the pleasure of visiting Three Dog Bakery in New Orleans several years ago.  Being from a small town in NC, let me tell you, it was an experience to say the least!

A small clear glass bowl filled with dog treats. The aromas were so intense I could have bitten the air… wait, I was in a DOG FOOD bakery!   Three Dog Bakery uses all natural, “people food” ingredients.

A blue bowl with dry ingredients and a green bowl with wet ingredients for dog treatsAfter organizing my pantry this week,  I was faced with a surplus of canned pineapple.  A recipe in the Three Dog Bakery Cookbook helped me to knock out one of those cans.

In one bowl, whisk all purpose flour, baking soda and baking powder.  In another bowl, whisk olive oil, molasses, canned crushed pineapple (drained), vanilla extract and an egg.

Unbaked dog treats on a baking sheetPour the liquid pineapple mixture into the flour mixture and stir well with a big spoon to combine.  Drop by tablespoons full onto a prepared baking sheet.

Baked dog treats on a baking sheetBake at 350 degrees F for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown (it took my treats 16 minutes to brown; the cookbook states 20 minutes).  Cool on a wire rack and serve one to your pooch.

When/Where do you add the egg?
I’m guessing to the liquid portion?
I don’t see it in the recipe directions.

Hi Alisha, thank you so much for catching that! Yes, the egg is whisked in with the other wet ingredients. I have updated this, thanks again!

My husband and I recently adopted our first puppy, Robot, in April, and are quickly learning what dog life if like! He’s a golden retriever mix (we’re still trying to figure out what he’s mixed with, we’re thinking hound). He’s a bit of a handful, but he’s cute – and that gets him out of a lot of trouble! 🙂

Princess was a beautiful silver German Shepherd with a black saddle. She, like many others, showed up on our doorstep with no collar. We tried to find her owners but no one called or stopped by for her. We had a cocker spaniel, Prissella Mae, and Dad said one dog was enough. Mom found her a home with a police officer who had dreams of making her into a police dog but she had other ideas. She wanted to be an Adams’ dog. She jumped a 6 ft. fence and went searching for our home, HER home. A neighbor found her a few weeks later half starved a few blocks over and took her back to us. Dad was out-voted and we kept her until she passed over the Rainbow Bridge. She was my constant companion and best friend. Forty years later I still cry when I see a silver & black German Shephard. My husband is allergic to dogs so we have cats now but it’s not the same. I know all the neighborhood dogs and they love me because I bake for them. They are going to LOVE this cookie! Thanks for sharing.

Although I have thre wonderful dogs now (2 boxers and a cocker spaniel), I’ve recently been thinking of a very loved cocker spanial we lost several years ago. Maverick was a true and loving friend that I miss so much it hurts some days. He was our buddy, a pillow to cry on, and a great ball fetcher. Hopefully maverick is getting to chase many tennis balls over the rainbow.

I believe all dogs go to heaven! Maverick sounds like he was a sweet boy. I’m sure it’s entertaining watching 2 boxers & a cocker spaniel all play together!

Sooo, last night, I made the Simple Dog Treats that you posted awhile back. I have 2 Boxer/Lab mixes (Danger Dog and Janey Girl) and they sat at my feet whining like babies while I was cutting the dough! lol it cracked me up. Needless to say, they highly enjoyed your recipe!!

      Thanks so much!

Thank you Amy! Chance stared at me too while I was cutting the dough…I think they know! I’ve always thought that a boxer/lab mix was an awesome combination. I’ve seen a couple that were really cool!

I was a little skeptical about Chance liking the pineapple, but he LOVED it! I could never get him to eat much fruit except banana. 🙂

Amy- I love seeing what recipes you post…I especially love the doggy recipes because my little fur babies are allergic to ground yellow corn and it’s so hard to find treats that don’t have a lot of junk in them. I can’t wait to try these!!

Thank you Lindsey! I never thought about dogs having allergies to corn. I’m sure it’s hard finding food that they can eat! I hope your fur babies enjoy the treats. 🙂

I just have to comment on your doggy treats. I haven’t tried this one yet. But I am sure our guys will go crazy. We currently have a huge box of Banana PUPcakes in the fridge. Seven Boxers and one Min Pin go through them by the truck load. It has gotten to the point that they turn up their noses to milk bones, then go wait in front of the fridge. Yea, they are a little spoiled, but they know what they like!

LOL Sherri! You have your hands full with SEVEN boxers AND a Min Pin! Wow! I just visited your page & wish I could adopt every single one of the doggies. I read Opal’s story & it broke my heart. Chance has gotten a little picky with store-bought treats, too! 🙂

Opal is one of the 7 living with us. And I just can not imagine her ever fighting for anything. She would be happy to give up food completely for a simple pat on the head and a kind word. To be honest, I don’t think she will ever move from here. As the foster parents we have first option to adopt, and I just don’t think we could let her go.

I was fostering Chance in the same situation…the rescue found him a home & I could not let him go, so I understand! Maybe that’s why her story touched my heart so much. 🙂
