Mother’s Day is tomorrow and a lot of you know that I don’t have any kids… but oh yes I do! My 10 year old is named Chance.
This is Chance during a fun day at the beach… guess what – I cook for him too!
My “baby girl”, Ginger passed away from cancer a couple of years ago. During her sickness, my veterinarian advised me to feed her a diet of whole grains, vegetables, fruit and meats. After her passing I still feed homemade treats and food to Chance. Don’t get me wrong, he eats bagged dog food in-between his homemade meals and treats (and when we go to the beach!).
Ginger’s courageous battle with cancer is the reason I started cooking doggy food, so I can’t leave her out. This is Ginger during her sickness. She was a trooper and fought until the very end {wiping my tears}. Her cancer was inoperable. She lived a long, good life.
Believe it or not, this picture was taken just 3 days before her passing. This was her last boat ride and she enjoyed every MINUTE of it! Ginger and Chance were best friends!
One of the treats I prepare for my doggy is banana pupcakes. They’re super simple to make – and a lot less expensive than buying treats at the pet store. I make them so that they look like a little biscuit rather than a cupcake, only filling the cupcake liner about half full.
You’ll start by mashing a couple of bananas in a large bowl with a fork:
Add wheat flour, water, vanilla, baking powder, egg and honey. Stir it all up with a big spoon. The batter will look lumpy from the bananas.
Fill the cupcake liners about ½ full:
Bake for about 15 minutes, or when a toothpick inserted is removed clean. Your doggy will thank you and so will your wallet!
Happy Mother’s today to all of you Moms, with two-legged AND four-legged babies!

Hi, Amy!
I love the dog treat recipes so thank you for those. I’m sure my son’s dog will love them, too. She likes him more than me but she knows who gives the best treats! *snicker*
I miss being in your neck of the woods! I grew up in Charlotte and spent years and years at Camp Seafarer. We would take trips to Morehead City and New Bern. As a family we also spent summers all up and down the NC coast. I so miss it since I now live in a landlocked state. 😛 The people aren’t near as wonderful, kind, sweet or friendly as my Tarheels!

I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost Princess, my German Shepard, 35 years ago & I still miss her. They all hold a special part in our hearts.
