Classic lemonade gets an adult twist in this delicious Bourbon Lemonade. This refreshing cocktail is sweet and tart with warm caramel notes from the bourbon whiskey. It’s perfect for summer barbecues or simply when you want to sip something summery with a kick!
I recently shared my recipe for a simple homemade lemonade and had enough lemonade left over to make this cocktail for enjoying while sitting in my rocking chair on my front porch. Summer evening porch sipping has never been more delicious!
Why I Love this Cocktail
- Only 2 ingredients are needed (if you choose to use store-bought lemonade).
- Quick and easy to make: No advanced mixology skills are needed here… this cocktail is mixed up in less than a couple of minutes.
- Make-ahead friendly: Bourbon lemonade can easily be made ahead of time in a pitcher for parties and gatherings.
- Easily customizable: Tweak the recipe to your liking by adjusting the ratios of lemonade to bourbon to suit your taste.
How to Make Bourbon Lemonade
- Pour 2 ounces (¼ cup) of bourbon in a glass, then pour in 6 ounces (¾ cup) of lemonade. Stir to combine.
- Add ice and garnish with a lemon wheel, mint sprig, and/or a maraschino cherry, if desired.
Make-Ahead Instructions
This cocktail is best served fresh but can easily be made ahead for gatherings. Stir together the bourbon and lemonade in a pitcher. Cover and refrigerate for up to 2 to 3 days. Be sure to give it a good stir before serving. Pour over ice, garnish, and enjoy!
Helpful Tips
- Use a quality bourbon. You don’t need to “break the bank”, but choose a smooth bourbon that you enjoy.
- Adjust to taste. Everyone’s taste buds are different, so feel free to adjust the ratio of bourbon to lemonade to your liking.
- Use homemade lemonade if possible. If that’s not an option, choose a high quality store-bought brand.
Enjoy, and please sip responsibly!

I realize this is a year old, but being in the mood I decided i needed a drink. Looking at your recipe inspired me, though I messed it up a bit. 🙂 I went with 1 part bourbon, 2 parts lemonade and put it together in an old glass jar. Something about them glass jars, eh? Hold the triple sec and cherries…this is all about the bourbon and lemons. 😉 L’Chaim!
Wow. This is a strong drank! Thanks for making my garden party a blast!
