Ingredients

For rimming the glass:

  • 1 lime wedge
  • sea salt or kosher salt

For the margarita:

  • 1 ounce unsweetened cherry juice
  • 2 ounces silver tequila
  • 1 ounce cherry liqueur I use Luxardo
  • 1 ounce lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 1 ounce simple syrup

Optional garnish:

  • fresh cherries
  • lime wheels

Instructions

  • Pour salt onto a small plate or saucer. Rub the lime wedge around the rim of your glass. Dip the rim of the glass into the salt and twist so that the salt sticks to the rim. Fill the glass with ice and set aside.
  • Fill a cocktail shaker half full with ice. Pour in the cherry juice, tequila, cherry liqueur, lime juice, and simple syrup.
  • Cover and shake vigorously for 15 to 20 seconds.
  • Strain into the prepared glass. Garnish with lime wheels and cherries, if desired.

Notes

  • To prepare simple syrup:  Combine equal amounts of granulated white sugar and water in a small saucepan over medium heat.  Heat until sugar is dissolved, stirring occasionally.  Remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
  • If using sweetened cherry juice, omit the simple syrup.
