Apple Crisp

This sweet and savory Apple Crisp with a crunchy oat topping is prepared with mostly pantry ingredients. So simple and easy!

Ingredients

For the apple mixture:

  • 2 pounds Granny Smith apples cored, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • ½ cup granulated white sugar
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon cornstarch

For the topping:

  • 1 ½ cups old fashioned cooking oats
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup chopped pecans
  • ½ cup salted butter melted

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 2 quart baking dish with cooking spray.

Prepare the apple mixture:

  • In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and cornstarch. Sprinkle mixture evenly over apples and toss to coat evenly (use your hands if necessary!).
  • Arrange apples evenly in prepared baking dish.

Prepare the topping:

  • In a medium bowl, stir together oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg until combined. Add pecans and stir again to combine. Pour in melted butter and stir to combine until crumbly and well coated.
  • Distribute topping mixture evenly over apple mixture in baking dish. Bake approximately 45 to 50 minutes, or until top is golden brown, edges are bubbling and apples are tender.
  • Allow to rest 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • To store:  Allow to cool, then store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Delicious with vanilla ice cream and/or caramel syrup!
