When you need a crowd-pleasing cocktail that doesn’t take much to put together, turn to these pumpkin white Russians. Creamy, smooth, warmly spiced, and boozy, everyone will love this comforting pumpkin cocktail.
The white Russian cocktail is a popular classic for good reason: by mixing cream, vodka, and coffee liqueur together, you’re left with a coffee-flavored cocktail that’s as easy to drink as it is to make. And because the ingredients list is so short, you can easily put your own spin on the recipe! A dash of pumpkin pie spice gives these pumpkin white Russians a comforting flavor but you could even take it up a notch with pumpkin coffee creamer, flavored vodka, and more.
Why You’ll Love These Pumpkin Spice White Russians
- It’s a classic white Russian cocktail infused with comforting fall flavors.
- A quick, easy, and 4-ingredient cocktail! All you have to do is shake the simple ingredients in a cocktail shaker, pour over ice, and enjoy.
- Each sip is rich and creamy, lightly spiced, refreshing, and perfectly boozy.
Ingredients Needed
- Vodka – Did you know that the drink is called a white Russian specifically because it’s made with vodka? It’s a necessary part of any white Russian recipe! And there’s no need to get fancy with the vodka you use. Any low to mid-priced bottle will do.
- Coffee liqueur – White Russians are usually made with Kahlúa but you can use any brand of coffee liqueur that you like. Not sure what to do with the rest of the bottle? Make a batch of my Pumpkin Kahlúa Coladas!
- Whole milk – Reduced fat milk or skim milk can be substituted for whole milk.
- Pumpkin pie spice – A blend of cinnamon, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, and cloves. You can easily make homemade pumpkin pie spice, or it can be found in your grocery store’s spice section.
How to Prepare
For the detailed instructions, please see the recipe card.
- Pour all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake until the outside of the shaker is frosted and very cold (about 30 seconds).
- Strain into rocks glasses filled with ice.
- Garnish the cocktails with a pinch of pumpkin pie spice. Enjoy!
Tips and Tricks
- No cocktail shaker? No problem! Mix the cocktail ingredients in any sealed container or airtight jar you have on hand.
- Rim the cocktail glasses for an elevated presentation and flavor. Stir 1 tablespoon of pumpkin pie spice and 3 tablespoons of white sugar together in a shallow dish. Dip the rims of the empty cocktail glasses in a little water before the pumpkin spice-sugar mixture to help it stick.
- This is a festive drink, so why not add a festive garnish? Top your cocktail with a dollop of whipped cream, then sprinkle pumpkin spice on top to give it a festive flair. You could even add a cinnamon stick to the drink, like a festive stir stick.
Recipe Variations
There are a handful of ways to put your own spin on this pumpkin cocktail. Check them out:
Use pumpkin creamer
You can make this with pumpkin spice creamer instead of whole milk and pumpkin pie spice. The cocktail will still be creamy and nicely spiced but won’t have any sediment on the bottom from the spices.
Make it dairy free
Vegan white Russians are just as good as the classic! Instead of whole milk, try this recipe with non-dairy milk, such as almond or soy milk. And because Kahlúa is not vegan-friendly, use Tia Maria or another coffee liqueur that does not contain dairy.
Ditch the caffeine
The coffee liqueur does have traces of caffeine but the drink shouldn’t keep you up all night. Still, if you’d prefer to skip the caffeine entirely, make the white Russians without the coffee liqueur. Feel free to replace it with decaf brewed coffee if you’re missing the coffee flavor.
Make it a mocktail
You can make a pumpkin spice mocktail by omitting the vodka and coffee liqueur from the recipe and adding ½ cup of brewed coffee, espresso, or cold brew in its place. Feel free to add ½ to 1 ounce of cinnamon simple syrup for a sweet and warmly spiced flavor.
