For the apple mixture:

  • 4 large granny smith apples (about 21/4 pounds) cored, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the topping:

  • 11/2 cups old fashioned cooking oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.  Spray a 9 x 13 casserole dish with cooking spray.

Prepare the apple mixture:

  1. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together white sugar, brown sugar and cinnamon.  Sprinkle mixture evenly over apples and stir to coat evenly (use your hands if necessary!).
  3. Spread apples evenly in baking dish.

Prepare the topping:

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until combined.  Add pecans and stir to combine.  Add melted butter and stir to combine until crumbly and well coated.
  2. Distribute topping mixture evenly over apple mixture in baking dish.  Bake approximately 45-50 minutes, or until top is golden brown and edges are bubbling.
