Do you ever come home from work to an empty fridge and cupboard? I find that sometimes the best recipes result from being forced to improvise with few ingredients on-hand.  That’s how I came up with this delicious Passion Fruit Rum Cocktail!
I recently was provided with a bottle of one of Cruzan’s newest rums to review: Cruzan® Passion Fruit Rum.Â
The bottle was so pretty I almost caught myself not wanting to open it.
NOT!
When I opened the bottle and smelled the rum, it definitely reminded me of passion fruit. The rum tasted a little sweet, but not overbearingly sweet.
So… as tired as I was, not wanting to go to the grocery store, I looked around my kitchen to see what I could conjure up to go with it. What’s awesome about this cocktail recipe is that you probably already have all of the ingredients (like me) to make it once you get the rum in your hands: club soda and grenadine. That’s it! The flavor was just sweet enough to taste awesome, but not “syrupy” and the passion fruit flavor wasn’t overpowered with other fruit flavors.
I garnished it with a sprig of mint. You can also garnish it with pineapple, a maraschino cherry, an orange or lime slice.
Being that National Rum Day is tomorrow (August 16th), this is the perfect variation of rum to celebrate with (responsibly!). Cheers!
