This recipe brings back memories of childhood….my Mama’s fried chicken.

Southern Fried Chicken

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs cut up chicken
  • 2 tbsp Old Bay seasoning
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 2-3 cups cup vegetable oil

Instructions

    Heat vegetable oil in chicken fryer (fill 1/4 full) while you're preparing the following:
  1. Mix Old Bay seasoning, flour, salt & pepper thoroughly in 1 gallon plastic storage bag (shake well)
  2. Dip one piece of chicken in buttermilk
  3. Place in bag & shake to coat chicken; one piece at a time
  4. Immediately place in VERY hot oil in fryer
  5. Continue coating chicken with buttermilk & flour mixture until pan is full
  6. Reduce to medium heat and cover until chicken is golden brown on each side (approximately 25 minutes)
  7. Remove lid last 5 minutes of frying so chicken will be crispy
  8. Place chicken on paper towels to absorb excess oil
